Violence Reduced As Security Increases

Sadr City Continues To Experience Peace And Safety

Sadr City has seen its share of violence, but the members of the Iraq Security forces have been especially successful in chasing insurgent forces out of the city. The coalition has been a support, and still mounts joint patrols on occasion when requested.

Some of the worst suicide bombing and car bombings were previously done in Sadr City, and the region has been sorely in need of redemption, but over the last 18 months this has slowly became the reality.

Iraqi Security Forces have become the professionals that are required to make sure that the citizens of Iraq are protected and kept safe. With the training, and equipment, and continued support from the coalition, the insurgency has no place to go, and the Sadr City area continues to experience stability and peace.

Sudden, without warning patrols, and occasional and regular house to house searches, along with a concerted effort to involve the local citizens in decision making at the local government levels- all of these efforts have made Sadr City a strong renewed Iraqi community.

Members of the local community were slow to trust, but they have gained in trust and respect, both for the coalition, but also for their own citizens. It is much easier to take risks and perform security duty when you know that if something goes amiss, that you have the support of your countrymen, and of the local community.
