The United States Armed Forces has raised the profile of education and education support for Servicemembers. They have placed more emphasis on education for Servicemembers, both for their personal goals and for their ability to provide military readiness. There is a variety of funding for going back to school available, and one of the choices available to spouses of Servicemembers is the Career Initiative for Military Spouses. Besides the support for military Servicemembers education needs, the US Military has began to assist and create different programs to help the wives and spouses of Servicemembers in their efforts to get an education.
Federal Departments have stepped in and are participating, the Department of Labor, The Department of Agriculture, and the Defense Department all have worked to help form an effective program to encourage and support efforts by military spouses to get an education. It was created to help prepare and assist military spouses around the world to get ready for new careers. This is a real program that is designed to create education accounts that spouses can put money into, and have some of the funds matched or supported by the secondary education and training program. This new program is a pilot that involves eight states at the current time with the potential to expand. The new program involved Maine, Washington State, North Carolina, Florida, Hawaii, Georgia, California and Colorado. It is an active program that is working to provide support through 18 different military Family Centers, Military Voluntary Education Centers, and Military One Stop Shopping centers. This new program creates a virtual Education account for spouses to use as funding source to pay for books, equipment, tuition and other possible education and training related costs. For those military spouses that are eligible they can receive up to $3,000 dollars per year of school study, for up to two years.
Initial funding for the program started in January of 2008, and this is the first season that the program has ran. Military Spouses have put a lot into supporting their spouses and their careers, and it is often very difficult for the Spouse to get an education.

At the very least with the starting and stopping and moving, it is more difficult. Education is also out of reach because of the soaring cost of childcare, making attending college or training out of reach for many young families.
