The United States Navy maintains one of the most modern fleet of vehicles in the world. The Navy Motor Transportation specialty works with over 50,000 different heavy vehicles, trucks, buses, cars and other transportation vehicles. Working in this career field you will be responsible for driving and the operation of many different types of vehicles, from heavy troop transports, to passenger buses, sedans, and even semi tractor-trailer vehicles.
Some of your responsibilities as a motor transport operator will include: driving vehicles over all different types of terrains and roads, as part of convoys and combat operations, reading load plans, participation in different military transportation operations, providing routine small profile motor pool maintenance, and keeping detailed vehicle records. It is the Navy Transport Motor Operator that works to drive fuel tanks, water trucks, and a variety of passenger transportation vehicles in support of the Navy mission. You will learn how to operate in a convoy and be part of team working to deliver and provide for the Navy mission at home and abroad. You will work as part of a team working with Navy vehicles in a variety of missions and performing many different types of operator tasks. During your training you will learn safety procedures, International road signs and rules of the road, basic vehicle maintenance, and accident prevention. Navy Motor Transport Operators are responsible to operate and supervise various wheeled vehicles to transport cargo, personnel and supplies. You will also function to perform checking vehicle fluid levels, such as fuel, oil and tire pressures, and performing routine repairs and vehicle washing. The Navy Motor Transport Operator is a specialty that is involved in movement of goods and materials throughout the military battlefield and support operations and the transportation of personnel and supplies in military convoys. Training for Navy Transportation Motor Careers starts with Basic Training for about 9 weeks. After that you will progress to additional training for 6 weeks, where you will receive further training on Transportation motor operator Navy training.

Part of the training time will be spent in simulated field conditions, dealing with different types of transportation operation and also detailed classroom training learning different US Navy transportation procedures. After your Navy career is over you will have a lot of opportunities in the civilian career field as a vehicle operator, motor pool manager, or other civilian jobs.
