The transportation area of the United States Army is a position that is rewarding and very detail oriented. The modern Army Transportation Officer is the person the is responsible for the movement, service, response, and placement of soldiers, troops, and material for the US Army anywhere on the globe. The Army Transportation officer uses trucks, humvees, hovercraft, Army boats, aviation assets, and all different Army types of equipment to provide efficient and swift support and movement to meet any mission parameters required. Army Transportation officers are expert in using any and all resources to move troops and supplies in support of Army mission and Service needs.
Most Army Transportation officer billets are 2nd Lieutenant positions, and they coordinate operations and deployment of soldiers at different command levels, from battalion, brigades, platoons, and at levels in the United States and in Multinational operations. The Army Transportation officer work to assist and support allied troop operations in transportation and operations of troops in combined armed forces movements during land based combat. Army Transportation officer begins with the Officer Transportation Basic Course, where you are taught tactics, operational aspects of shipping, vehicles, weapons and personnel. An Army Transportation officer often functions as a leader of men, equipment and supplies. You have to have a high level of physical fitness, and be able to hold up well under stressful situations. You will also learn in officer basic a variety of procedures and leadership skills to train you how to deal with personnel and supplies in your job specialty. Dealing with conflict needs to be almost 2nd nature for you, and you will be shown and demonstrated effective leadership and management techniques to prepare you for your role in the modern Army. The position of Army Transportation Officer is one that is available in both Active Duty and in the reserves, and you will be modeled how to make effective and swift decisions, as well as rated on your ability to lead and provide effective leadership to soldiers under your command.
