Progress In Security In Fallujah Region Noted
One of the best signs that security has been established on a permanent basis is when high-ranking leaders are able to visit in relative safety and security. The Commandant of the Marine Corps, General James T. Convay recently visited Camp Fallujah and toured the area. He met with different commanders in the region, and also paid visits to front line troops serving on the front lines, and in the field.
The Commandant visited with Colonel Lewis A Craparotta, the Commanding Officer of Regimental Combat Team 1.
The overall success of the surge, along with recent successes in handing off security to the Iraqi Security Forces was examined, and both military leaders were pleased with the overall success that the coalition soldiers and the ISF forces have been able to enjoy.
The leaders traveled with a group of young Marines from Camp Fallujah to Camp Blue Diamond in Ramadi district where they then met with many different local commanders and other Coalition staff members to discuss the state of cooperation between the Iraqi Police and the Army and the retreating coalition troops.
