U.S. Army Doctors Rescue Young Child
U.S. Army Medics work long hours and help many people in addition to our own troops. Medics worked to treat just over three hundred local citizens at Patrol Base Murray, then turned around and helped a five year old that presented with burns.
Medics found the five year old with 2nd and 3rd degree burns to her legs and thighs when they administered help on December 4th. Little Dhuha Khalid Abed said she was playing with her little brother near a large electric heater when a pot overturned on her legs. The pot had water in it being heated when the accident happened.
Her father, Mr. Abed took his little girl immediately to local U.S. Troops who rendered first aid, including bandaging and dressing for her legs. After several days her father took her to Patrol Murray Base to get more help.
Medics that are assigned to First Battalion, 30th Regiment, Second Brigade Combat, and Third Infantry from Georgia looked at her injury and treated the burns on her legs. “We are most concerned with infections of a secondary nature right now†stated Eric Ironsmith, a Sgt. with the team and Aid Station Medic.
Because the burns took away the top layer of skin from her legs it allows more infection than if it had not. The top layer protects and blocks disease. To further assist in reducing infections Medics scrubbed the area and used antibiotic cream to treat the burns.
