49 Youth Released Bringing Number Released To Date To 11,000
One of the new advances that the Iraqi Government has benefited from is the reintegration of 49 youth that were previously detained. With the release of this latest group of 49 youth, the number of young people that have been successfully rehabilitated has risen to 11,000.
The holiday of Ramadan is approaching, so being able to release an additional 49 people has been seen as a boost to the local community. These youths can celebrate the Ramadan holiday with their families for the first time in at least a year. Some of the youths have been held or interned since 2005, and they are members of the community that are considered rehabilitated.
The Iraqi Government provides counselors, and representatives of their Government that work with members of the coalition to help restore members that are in prison. People that are help in the Coalition detainment facilities are those that either took up and bore arms against the Iraqi Government, against the ISF forces, or against the Coalition.
Many of the people in detainment are not serious criminals, but merely choose to accept money to bear arms against the coalition. While this can be understood because of the lack of employment in many areas of Iraq, these citizens still have to be passed by members of the reintegration committee. They interview and work with members of the Iraqi community that are in prison, until they agree to give up all vengeance or revenge against anyone in Iraq, and also agree to support and obey the rule of law.
