General Bell Received Friendship AwardCombined Force Commander Given Korean Name Yongsan Garrison, South Korea A dinner and presentation was hosted recently by the ROK-U.S. Alliance Friendship Society.  At the engagement, General B.B. Bell was honored and given a Korean name in a formal presentation. Alliance Society leader Suh Jin-Sup stated that his organization tried to choose a name that was close to how General Bell’s name sounded.  General Bell, the Combined Forces Command South Korea Commander was awarded his Korean name to thank him and U.S. Military members for their efforts and work on the Korean Peninsula. General Bell was given the name Baek Bo-Guk in the ceremony Monday.  General Bell also is leader of UN Forces Command and all U.S. Forces in Korea. Chairman Suh Jin Sup said that not only was the name picked for its phonetic similarity to General Bells name, but also based on “the character of General Bell’s personality” in a statement made by Chairman Suh Jin Sup at the event held at the Dragon Hill Lodge. The word Baek represents the color white, meant as a sign of purity The word Bo means to preserve or protect And the word Guk means country. Roughly translated “Pure character and protector of Korea” “General Bell’s Korean name is very much accurate in that he works to protect and defend the Republic of Korea, and he has worked diligently to strengthen the blood alliance between our two countries” according to Suh Jin Sup General Bell thanks the Chairman and said he felt that “this is a wonderful lifelong honor”. The General recently celebrated his sixtieth birthday while on duty in Korea.
