Coalition COP Apache Soldiers Get Stand

Food Stand Provides Taste Of Iraq

One of the benefits of being located near a group of coalition soldiers is that they are a hard working group, and they enjoy having food alternatives to break up the routine of military food. So for an enterprising young Iraqi, setting up a food stand near Combat Outpost Apache has been a lucrative operation.

Northern Baghdad has been secure for a number of months, and the opening of a food stand has been the source of excitement for soldiers that pass by on patrols, and that are stationed at Combat Outpost Apache.

Ronnie is a citizen of Iraq that for security reasons prefers not to give his last name, and he is a native that got the idea after chatting with soldiers from the Coalition that talked about not having any place to purchase.

“Business is very good, the soldiers enjoy eating the food I prepare and I have a lot of customers that are repeat customers.” Said Ronnie.

Ronnie runs the stand with his cousin Kirk and they serve a selection of Iraqi food, such as kabobs and falafels, and they have a number of American favorites such as French fries and cheeseburgers.

The stand is called the Falafel King and it gives a place close to their outpost for soldiers to relax after a mission, and Ronnie is known and trusted by the soldiers.
