Operation Monmouth Strengthens Ties

Coalition and Iraq Army Work Together To Achieve Common Goals

A recent combination air and ground assault involving elements of the ISF forces and support from the coalition yielded a number of larger weapons caches, as well as a half dozen suspected insurgent suspects.

The Air assault is called Operation Monmouth, and was a joint operation that featured a swift air assault in Habbash village to seek out and eliminate the insurgent forces, and to remove the weapons caches that threaten the village.

“It was an excellent operation from start to finish,” said 2nd Lieutenant Muhamed Shuker Hummod, the platoon leader of one of the ISF forces Army units.

The leaders of the air assault were Iraqi, with the United States and Coalition units providing air transportation and logistical support.

More and more air type assaults are being successfully planned and implemented by the Iraqi Security forces, which points to their successful training and professionalism.

The weapons were given over to a US Marine Corps EOD squad from Camp Striker for demolition, and the insurgent suspects were taken into custody by the ISF forces for interrogation.

A total of 25 Iraqi ISF force soldiers took part in the Air Assault, with about as many coalition soldiers accompanying them but holding off in the background as support.
