Coalition Supports Thriving Baghdad Markets

Market Is Thriving And Coalition Support Has Been Crucial

The Raabi neighborhood is located in the Adhamiyah region of Baghdad, and it has seen a lot of action over the last several years. It was the scene of some of the fiercest fighting and it had a entrenched, violent criminal element that was part insurgency, and part just dangerous criminals.

All of the has changed. The efforts of the 82nd Airborne were two pronged, one effort was made to train and give support to the Iraqi Security forces. The training that the Iraqi Forces have received have given them the professionalism and experience to keep the security, once established, safe.

The other effort was to get the region safe in the first place. Using the influx of troops that occurred with the surge, the soldiers of the 82nd Airborne systematically forced the insurgents out of the region.

It has taken a long time, but the whole Adhamiyah district is now one of the safest in Iraq. The soldiers of the coalition are still participating in patrols, but for the most part the security has been maintained by the ISF forces.
