Iraqi Police Reach Out To Community

Efforts To Relate To Community Using Soccer

The Iraqi National Police have been doing an excellent job in providing security and keeping the citizens of the Al Kut region safe. Recently they have been also working hard to reach out to the community, and they have established a citywide tournament for Soccer teams.

In the past the relationship with the Iraqi Police and the community was very poor. As representatives of Saddam, the citizens were on the receiving end of a lot of violence and abuse.

This has all changed, and the Iraqi Police have undergone a rebirth. They have had to be taught what it means to be diplomatic, and to be able to have positive relationships with members of the Community.

But slowly, they have learned. They established a league and encouraged citizens and different groups to form soccer teams. They even established their own Police agency headquarters soccer team, and participated in the recent City Tournament August 28th.

The Police team was fortunate enough to reach the championship game in the Karamiyah District Al Kut Soccer championship. The narrowly lost, and concluded the 12 team championship in style, being defeated in a very close game.

The team from the Karamiyah region defeated the Police team, 7-6 in a championship game that featured several hundred spectators.
