Coalition Aid Helps Citizen Farmers
The coalition has helped with a number of different projects in the Al Baraka region, including several road construction projects, repair of two schools, a clinic and other projects. One of the most recent projects has been coming to the aid of the farmers in the Lutifiyah region.
Members of the Coalition have been working hard to help create the Al Baraka Operative Farmers Association. It is a loose farmer’s cooperative that works to help pool resources and to gain access to support and security for farmers and for different efforts to aid farmers.
Providing security for the farmers has helped them to gain both confidence and resources. Being able to operate openly has allowed farmers to join in getting supplies, and in gaining support with fertilizer, seeds, and supplies, often from the coalition or coalition sources.
Members of the Coalition 3rd Infantry division, 4th BCT, 502nd Infantry regiment worked hard to help farmers pool their resources, and it has helped give farmers the ability to get equipment that is needed by several farmers, and to get seed, fertilizer and other supplies in bulk.
Not only are there advantages to purchasing in bulk, but it gives farmers assistance in getting things done, in ways that they are not used to using, but that are very effective.

The association also gives the farmers a voice in the local government and farmers are not used to being so feted, but are adjusting to the idea of participation in local government, and it has been fairly successful.
