US Airmen Give Iraqis Hope For Future

Air Force Aids In Hawr Rajab Transformation

The village of Hawr Rajab has been through a lot. It was first a fairly active village, with a fair amount of commerce that went on during the Saddam reign. Then, after the fall of Saddam, it was the height of combat and battle, with many civilians being injured or killed over the number of months. As recently as six months ago, the streets of Hawr Rajab was deserted, and shops and businesses were closed. Many civilian homes were badly damaged and intimidation and violence kept many civilians afraid and off the streets.

But today, things are radically different. Hawr Rajab is a radically different place. It is a place of relative safety. It is a city that is recovering and you can see and feel the progress.

Even at 10 am in the morning, the streets are full of people, vendors are in their booths, mechanics, iron workers, city drivers, everyone is going about their business as usual.

Much of the town and city rebirth is due to the actions of the US Air Force, based locally in Patrol Base Stone. They have worked very hard to assist the Iraqi Security Force, and it has worked for success. The members of the ISF forces, along with citizens, Sons of Iraq, and others have all worked to secure the village of Hawr Rajab.

The program and efforts have been successful, and served to work together to protect and make Iraq and the region secure.
