Car Bombs Decrease In Iraq

Car Bombs Decrease In IraqU.S. Forces Create Decline In Explosions
Baghdad, Iraq

There was a time when bumper-to-bumper traffic was common in Iraq.  Then came the days of roadside bombs, explosives and IED devices.

Once again, Traffic is a reality again on the streets in downtown Baghdad.

The car bombs and explosive attacks have had a huge and negative effect on Military Forces, and on the local citizens.  It was a major threat the last time that 2nd Cav Striker Regiment was stationed in the Mosul area of Iraq.  2nd Cav Striker Regiment was last in Mosul from 2004 to 2005 said 2nd Lieutenant Commander Colonel John RisCassi.

“We are pleased to announce that IED and explosive devices are not a major issue or threat against our forces in Baghdad,” said Colonel RisCassi recently.  Car Bomb attacks are down sixty five percent from a year ago, especially after the current “surge” of activity this June by coalition forces.

“We are a little safer than we were previously, but we still look at every car just like it contains a IED device because you never know” said Staff Sgt. Ian Kriebel.

“You are given a report that an IED production factory is around the area,” said Third Squad Lieutenant Colonel Rod Coffey.  Colonel Coffey is Third Squad Commander.  “But then you come across a guy merely working on a car” stated Coffey.  “But you never know”. Coffey Said.

Tips from local Iraqi citizens have made all the difference.  “As slowly troops continue to build bridges and make friends, more and more its difficult for insurgents to operate without someone in the community letting us know directly, so we can take care of the bad guys” said Colonel Coffey.
