Responsibility For Security Passed From Coalition To Local Police
There have been 11 of the 18 provinces in Iraq that have been given back to the Iraqi Government in the area of security. The security of Baghdad has been in the hands of the coalition in many respects, but the Baghdad Iraqi police have been working very hard, and they have stepped up to the place, taking over security from the coalition.
The security in Baghdad has passed to the Iraqi Army, with the coalition remaining nearby and in the background. The police have helped out, but they did not have the training or the ability until recently.
Now, the Iraqi police have been trained, and have transitioned to the organization responsible for the day to day security in the greater Baghdad region. The training has been provided by the Coalition, and they have helped the Iraqi police with learning how to deal with the citizens of Baghdad.
Many key areas have been addressed, and now they have been able to be successful in keeping the peace. One area that the police have been able to be supportive of is the operation of the Seik Railway, the train from Mosul to Basra.

Previously IED and explosive devices were a problem, but with the added patrols and vigilance of the Iraqi police, it has emerged as a strength, with operations becoming reliable and successful.
