Native Wisconsin Helps Iraqi Schools

Iraqi American Sends Help To Iraq

A member of the 2nd Brigade Combat team, 101st Airborne Division serving in Northwest Baghdad has struck out and started a new program. Captain Casey Planmann is a civil affairs information manager that works in the United States as a school teacher in Wisconsin.

His parents were born in Iraq, and Captain Planmann speaks the Iraqi language fluently. After serving in Iraq he saw the need for aid, and he began a program to aid the citizens.

He started a routine communication and supply program, to aid the local population. He has worked to assist in the donation of school supplies, as well as school books and English texts.

The books have been provided by citizens of Wisconsin, and will be given out to members of the community in Baghdad over the next several months. The supplies were transported from Wisconsin to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and then on board a military transport to Iraq.

Captain Planmann communicated with teachers and members of the education community in Wisconsin by email, and was able to enlist their support and help. Teachers and students began to raise money, and donate supplies, and it has been working slowly and gradually into a very successful concept program.
