Military MRAP Vehicles Continue Arriving

New Mine Resistant Vehicles Arriving In Iraq And Afghanistan

The overall delivery and production of the US Military Mine Resistant vehicles in support of the War on Terror has been proceeding ahead of schedule. After a rash of damaged vehicles in 2002- 2004, the US Military searched and discovered a type of vehicle available in South Africa.

The Mine Resistant ambush protected vehicles are first shipped to Charleston, South Carolina. The vehicles are outfitted at the US Navy Space and Navy Warfare systems command, with jammers, heavy armor, radios and other electronics and important security gear.

Next, these vehicles are loaded up and shipped to soldiers eagerly awaiting them in Afghanistan and Iraq. The goal is to ship and outfit about 430-450 vehicles a month, and so far they have been ahead of schedule.

Variations of these vehicles are being produced for different missions, and they have already saved hundreds of lives. Besides being safer, when the V shaped MRAP vehicles arrive, the equipment that the coalition uses now, Humvees and hummers, and heavily armored jeeps are available for the Iraqi Army.

While these vehicles are not as safe as the Coalition MRAP vehicles, they are still greatly improvement on what the Iraqi Nation has now, and they provide a great deal of armor and safety for the members of the Iraqi Police, without costing the Iraqi Nation anything.
