Concrete And Asphalt Enlisted Specialist

The needs for construction in the United States Military is increasing, and the ability of the US Armed forces to provide for construction allows it to increase its facilities each year. The Concrete and Asphalt specialist working in the Army is responsible for dams, roads, airfields, and buildings that require the construction and creation of concrete and asphalt structures. The members of the US Army Asphalt and Concrete specialist job work to use their skills to facilitate new construction, and to construct different structures around the world.

If you have any experience in using heavy construction type equipment, and if you enjoy working outdoors this may be a good job specialty for you. Construction equipment materials and operators are constantly needed in operating and maintaining graders, cranes, bulldozers, and other heavy equipment for these projects. Duties that are involved in construction and concrete and asphalt repair paving may entail production of concrete with a mixer, assisting in surfacing and asphalt paving application. This is a job that works well with the military apprenticeship program, as it dovetails nicely with different civilian based department of labor 3 year engineer apprenticeship programs. Many of these types of construction cannot be made without moving at times tons of earth, and making new surfaces using asphalt and concrete. Training will be in simulated combat conditions and also in classroom training. The military is able to help you meet up to 50 percent of the requirements for civilian apprenticeship while serving on active full time military duty, and this can give you a huge advantage when you are done with Army service. Asphalt and concrete equipment operators are responsible of operating and supervising all the different types of equipment used in asphalt and concrete paving and production. Advanced level Asphalt and Concrete specialists are involved in setting up and operating asphalt equipment on specific job tasked construction details, and operating advanced plants for the production of aggregate and asphalt construction materials. The training for an Army Asphalt and Concrete specialist involves basic combat training for 9 weeks, and 12 weeks of individual advance training.

You will learn to operate aggregate spreaders, asphalt kettles, and asphalt distributors, maintenance and operation of mobile and fixed asphalt production plants, and assisting in planning and completion of combat engineer type missions.
