Being in the military is dangerous, but there are different careers and job specialties that have added hazards or dangers. The military has different Special Duty pay types for those individuals that require extreme conditions. Because of their service, the military recognizes them and their service with special duty pay and benefits. Special Duty pay types are those types of pay that are for hardships, risks and other hazards that are part of their jobs. They require special ability and skills, or have increased supreme risks, and some different jobs have all three of these.
Special Skills- This is the type of pay for the needs of special skills, such as the ability to speak a foreign language. It can amount to several hundred dollars a month and it depends on the demands and the needs of the service. Hardship Duty- The amount of Hardship duty pay varies, but is typically about $50, $100, or $150 dollars a month. To qualify for hardship duty pay the conditions for living has to be quite a bit below anything found in the United States. It is specifically for Servicemembers that have to serve in remote locations where the cost of living is extremely high. Special Duty-This type of special pay is for those jobs that require a lot of detailed or extra responsibilities. It is for those jobs that take a lot of extra time, effort and involvement beyond what is regular and normal, and for this they receive compensation. Examples are parachute instructors, combat air controllers, fuel specialists, and other types of special duty. The pay for these types of jobs for special duty range from an additional $70 dollars a month to around $400 dollars a month on the high end. This is quite lucrative for some Servicemembers. Flight Duty- This type of pay yields typically around $240 dollars extra a month. In special situations. People who work on the fight decks on carriers qualify for flight duty pay.
It can equal nearly $840 dollars a month, depending on the circumstances. This is the type of benefits and pay awarded to those who work in aviation, flight operations or otherwise deal with aviation and the risks of aviation service. Navigators, Pilots, and aircrew members qualify for this type of pay.
