Forward Operating Base Summerall, Iraq
Soldiers from First Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division recently, completed the first Major Offensive in the Sahah Ad-Din province.
The troops arrived in Iraq in early October, and Operation Bulldog Hammer, part of the overall larger Operation Hammer was a success. Both operations were constructed to restrict and prevent Al-Qaida terrorist activity in the area and cities such as Suniyah and Bayji.
The Combined Iraqi and Coalition Forces performed a number of operations simultaneously to vigorously restrict and disrupt bomb making, weapons caches, and explosive construction in the area.
Raids were performed on a number of insurgent bases, as well as safe houses raids conducted by joint forces.
“The overall performance of our troops and operations went very well,” said Corporal Michael Sykes. Sykes is a member of First Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, who complimented Iraqi Forces and Security Troops involved in the operations.
“Each time we go out and execute a patrol together, we build confidence in each other, and we learn a lot from each other.” Said Infantryman Specialist Wesley Dobbs, serving Abu Company 1st of the 327th. “It is valuable to have them out with us on the front lines, we compliment each other and they can deal with local citizens sometimes better than we are able to” said Dobbs.
During Operation Bulldog Hammer and Operation Hammer a vast amount of weapons and explosives have been directly seized during the series of raids.
“The help is greatly appreciated,” said Iraqi Army Colonel Hamid, Commander of 4th Iraqi Army Division. “This is becoming our country again,” said Hamid.
