NATO And Italian Forces Assist In New Training Techniques

Following a recent day of training, the Commander of the Italian Carabinieri Team, Italian Colonel Fabrizio Parrulli, and Major General Alessandro Pompegnani, Deputy Commander NATO Training Mission spoke to the media about the new Iraqi National Police program.
The first of what promises to be many eight-week training courses began on October 27th. The first class of Iraqi National Police is four hundred fifty students.
Police trainee candidates range from Senior Level Policemen to junior level and recruits. The new training program covers a large area from riot control to counter insurgency. The course is designed to run for two years.
The police unit of Italian Carabinieri is made up of instructors from a number of specialized police subjects. They are trained and have been involved in missions involving operations,
Military assistance, riot control and counter insurgency.
“The mission of this training is to create units in the National Iraqi Police with specialized skills, to address their own security†said Colonel Parrulli. “There are fifteen area of training from investigations to community relations†said Parulli.
One mission that this effort was designed to solve was to build trust and a working relationship with the Iraqi people. “You simply have to have good relations with the public, and we aim to make over the old ways into one that will serve the rebuilt Iraqi nation†said Parruli.
“This training is built on Iraqi National Police future and current tasks,†said Colonel Parruli. “We want to train for not only today and specific missions, but also for the future to help build the Iraqi National Police†stated Colonel Parrulli.
