West Baqubah Receives Coalition Support

Security Allows Opening Of Vital Road

There was a recent ceremony that recognized the success in the Western Baqubah region in reopening a vital road that had been closed due to battle and combat damage. A number of explosions over the last few years had closed the road, but due to recent renovations the road is back.

The road has been under construction being renovated since last May, said Captain Kevin P. Ryan.

Captain Ryan is the coalition officer that was coordinating the rebuilding of the road. The idea was to help transition the area swiftly and to re open the roads, to give something back to the people. To do that, he had to work with different Iraqi Security forces to set different conditions that were to set up a series of Checkpoints.

Traffic has not been allowed because of the shape of the road, and due to security reasons. This was previously one of the areas that Al Qaeda maintained and operated from, but has since vacated having been chased out by the coalition.

Transition of control from Al Qaeda to coalition and Iraqi Security forces control has been hard found and won, but finally happened during the last six months, and it has been held successfully since by the efforts of the Iraqi Security Forces.
