New Schools Benefit Rashid District Kids

Coalition And Iraqi Army Efforts Assist Children And Staff

The children in the Rashid District, in the Jari and Malaly villages left last spring from a couple of different school facilities that were in poor condition. Over the summer, the members of the Iraqi Security Forces, the Army and police joined with the US Soldiers and coalition to rebuild a number of various schools, including the buildings in the Rashid District.

Baghdad soldiers that were part of the MNF coalition forces joined with the local Iraqi community, local officials and others to complete the school renovations in time for the re opening of school as scheduled on Sept 25th.

The buildings have all been refaced, the electrical wires re done, a number of new generators installed, new paint and the bathrooms are all completely renovated.

The community now sees the two local schools as community property that they take pride in. The resources of the community helped to rebuild the schools, and the schools will likely be areas that the community use as meeting places, and placed to play sports for the community such as evening basketball leagues and other types of gatherings.

The coalition played a large part in the renovations, providing the materials, payment for different contractors, as well as other materials. The ceremony for the reopening of the schools was also a success, and led to a community gathering and potluck where both Iraqi Security force members and members of the community were able to gather and share.
