Operation Widow Assists Iraqis In Need

US Marines Help The Needy With Food And Supplies

The operations of the US Marine Corps are continuing in the Rutbah region, and recently a Marine Reserve unit was able to bring in a bunch of supplies including food for some economically disadvantaged families in the West of Al Anbar on September 24th.

Operation Widow is a program that was started in June to provide both perishable and non perishable food items, such as milk, juice, fresh fruit and canned foods for the families located in Rutbah.

The program is a successful fusion of the coalition and the Iraqi Security forces. They have been cooperating together to bring donated supplies from different origins to the people of Al Anbar province.

The supplies are incoming from various locations in the United States. For the most part they are donated from different not for profit groups in the United States. It shows the continued generosity of the people United States.

The program “Operation Widow” was began by the Reserve Marine Corps unit and it has successfully provided baskets of food for more than 110 different families since its beginning in June. Each parcel has enough food for a family of four for between 3 and 4 weeks.

The program also helps break down barriers and is fostering communication and understanding between the joint Iraqi and Coalition forces and the families of Rutbah.
