Sadr City School Renovation Completed

Soldiers Perform Rebuilding Of School

Any of the soldiers that are serving in Iraq will tell you, the best duty involves working with the children of Iraq. Soldiers from various units of the 82nd Airborne Division, as well as members of the Iraqi Security services have worked hard to cooperate and rebuild the Sadr City Neighborhood school.

The Yarmook Girls School in Baghdad has been renovated, with the joint cooperative effort. The US Soldiers and Iraqi National Police have worked to identify the areas that need assistance, and the Sadr City Yarmook Girls School was tops on the list.

The bathrooms have been renovated, a new roof installed, a lighting system, numerous repairs to the pavement surrounding the school, as well as a paint job. The overall project was completed just in time for school for this year, and both the Iraqi Security forces and the coalition are well pleased with the success of the project.

There are nearly 2.5 million residents in the area of Sadr City, and there are a number of schools that are still needing renovation. Still, it is a success anytime that soldiers can put down their weapons and work to directly benefit the children.

Nine other schools have seen successful renovations over the last several months, part of the same program that refurbished the Yarmook Girls School. The Iraqi Government, the ministry of education, the Iraqi National police, as well as coalition units have all worked together in the school renovation.
