Large Weapons Cache Found Near Baghdad

Village Citizens Lead Joint Forces to Huge Stash Of Explosives

Recently a large cache of hidden explosives that was previously unknown was discovered by villagers from Qarghuli. They immediately went to the local Coalition outpost and turned in the location of the explosives.

Soldiers from the 4th battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd BCT, 10th Mountain Division responded and found a host of different types of explosives, and weapons. Most of them were old but still dangerous.

It is this type of support and activity that the coalition is benefiting from. It used to be in the past that they did not have a great deal of information from the citizens, the citizens did not trust the police and so many officers eventually wound up being killed from roadside explosive devices.

But, over the last year the relationship between the coalition and the local citizens has greatly improved. The citizens for their part do not have to live in fear, and they are upbeat and able to move around and feel safe.

The coalition benefits because they are able to receive timely and accurate information, and able to put a stop to different threats before they truly become a hazard.

While the number and frequency of explosive caches being found has waned over the last several months, there are still different explosive areas with ordnance and explosives still hidden, and at times they are brought to light.

When they are, then they are seized by members of the Coalition and disposed of by trained EOD soldiers.
