Marines Continue To Win Citizen Hearts

Battle For Acceptance Growing Easier With Iraqi Citizens

The overall responsibility for the Iraqi nation continues to slowly pass into the hands of the Iraqi Security Forces, but the Coalition is still very much involved in some areas. The US Marines perform patrols on a daily basis in many different areas, in support of the Iraqi Security Forces and by direction.

As part of this continued counterinsurgency effort, the Marines work with the local citizens, greeting people, showing recognition to people that they see and talk to every day. And it is making a difference with the local citizens, they realize that the coalition are working hard to help them, and it has been a successful effort at support that continues to bear fruit.

The soldiers are able to be safer, because the local citizens support their efforts they do not actively rail against the soldiers, but instead they are a supportive and friendly group. This makes community policing activity accessible and user friendly, and a safer endeavor for everyone.

Not only that but this has borne fruit in dealing with terrorists and insurgents. Because the trust of the people have been earned, the citizens are willing now to come forward with valuable intelligence about new comers.
