Renovated Primary School Completed

Classes Open For School Year

There was a ceremony recently in the Mansour District of Northwest Baghdad. It was held to celebrate the grand opening of the Al Rasheed Primary school and two other schools also serving the primary grades.

These are schools that have been renovated and completed by a joint effort by the Coalition, the Iraqi Security Forces, and the Mansour District Advisory council. The different groups worked together to renovate the different plumbing systems and bathrooms in each of the schools, to add new windows and doors, and fresh paint. They also cooperated to provide different new equipment including chalk boards, desks, and other new related school furnature.

Most of the work done was cosmetic, but there were also structural efforts that have yielded the ability to hold classes now at each of the schools. The soldiers from the Coalition 432nd Civil Affairs Battalion worked closely with the Iraqi Government, along with the government of Al Rasheed and the Mansour District.

The school was in really rough shape and by renovating the facilities they were able to save money and provide a opportunity for students to get an education faster than building a number of new schools or facilities from scratch.

The 432nd Civil Affairs Battalion is actually a Reserve unit from Wisconsin, and they found their opportunities to assist students very rewarding and an opportunity to connect with local citizens and communities.
