Sadr City School Renovated And Began

Engineers Assist In Restoration Of Girls Schools

The region of Sadr City was where some of the most intense fighting took place over the last two years until the last six months. After the Surge, the area slowly transitioned into some of the most safe regions in the entire nation of Iraq.

Two months of intense work that started in the summer began to renovate a number of girls schools that have suffered some of the worst damage from the intense fierce fighting. Twelve different classrooms in two schools are now repaired, with as many as four other schools receiving continued repairs over the next several months.

Children and their educational needs have began to take a primary focus in the Iraqi nation, and it is a direction that is both supported by the Iraqi Security Forces along with the Coalition. Everyone that wanted to have their children educated before are now able to get their children to attend renovated, modern school facilities.

The fighting in Sadr City was basically finished in May of 2008, and the schools and their needs to be fixed and repaired took center stage as soon as the fighting was done. The Jawala’la school was one of the first to be identified as needing repair, and it was just the first of a number of schools that need repair.
