Restarted Mosul Marketplace Secure

Rebuilt Market Area Successful

Mosul has had some of the most active healing in the entire region of Iraq. Soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, 5th Brigade, 2nd Military Transition Team returned to Mosul recently to assess how well the markets and different industrial marketplaces have fared over the last several months.

In 2007 the different marketplaces located in Mosul were struggling, they were working to try and gain back what they had lost but there was still a lot of terrorist activity in the region, including several different explosions in the middle of the day.

Toward the end of 2007, after six months of intense patrols by the Iraqi Army and supported by the Coalition, slowly things started to change, and business started to flourish.

The local economy began to reassert itself and over time and the beginning of 2008 the local businesses began to re open, and the security issues slowly subsided.

The soldiers of the 3-5-2 MiTT are very confident and proud of the different areas that they have made a difference. The Iraqi Citizens have sprung to the task of rebuilding their community with a lot of enthusiasm. They have slowly began to support their own Security Services, and the coalition.

The citizens began to learn that the coalition and the Iraqi Security forces are on their side, and that the forces of Al Qaeda were specifically aiming at injuring and hurting them, so their allegiance, if any, shifted from Al Qaeda to the government and the coalition forces.
