Al Suleikh Joint Security Station Successful

Iraqi Takes The Lead In JSS Operations

One of the best new concepts that has been used in Iraq has been the method of putting front line coalition soldiers at Joint Security Stations alongside Iraqi Police and Iraqi Army soldiers. By stationing joint Servicemembers.

Three months ago they established a forward based Joint Security Station, JSS Al Suleikh, and it has been successful in achieving a secure zone of safety in the district. The challenge will be to keep the district secure while the US and Coalition soldiers are withdrawn over the next several months.

Soldiers from the Coalition have been able to achieve success more readily by cooperation between their forces, and the efforts of their Iraqi brethren. By stationing active duty soldiers and military members from both the ISF forces and the coalition at the JSS forward stations, they have been able to overcome many of the traditional barriers that have prevented security efforts in the past.

In addition, the members of the Iraqi Community have come to trust the JSS soldiers as they see their own soldiers cooperating and living successfully side by side with coalition troops. It has broken down language and cultural barriers, as well as helping members of each of the security detachments, both Iraqi and coalition to better understand each other.

Now, as the members of the coalition prepare to withdraw in a gradual manner, the forces of the Iraqi Security in the national Army and the Iraq police will slowly move into the spaces in the Joint Security Stations to take the place of coalition soldiers.
