Joint Forces Work To Focus Efforts
Coalition and Iraqi Soldiers worked together to conduct a large cordon Search and Seizure operation recently. This followed directly on the heels of a successful security project mounted in the Adhamiyah district.
The cordon was a battalion sized project that worked to go house to house in the Adhamiyah district, looking for weapons, and terrorism suspects, as well as other criminals and insurgent elements.
This effort was very successful, the four hour operation netted 38 illegal weapons and 9 different suspected terrorism suspects. This operation was referred to as the “Safe Neighborhood Project,” which is going to be repeated irregularly at different locations across Iraq.
The “Safe Neighborhoods” project has been very successful, and it has helped with cleaning up and clearing out different elements such as burnt out vehicles and broken down and damaged cars and trucks.
The Efforts by the Coalition and the Iraqi Security Forces working together have been more successful than either of their individual efforts by themselves. Each of their efforts have been complimented by the efforts of their counterparts, respectively.
The Iraqi Army has been working to patrol the streets using different checkpoints, and with the use of blocking positions that are manned by both coalition soldiers and Iraqi Security Forces themselves.
