Joint Patrols Disrupt Insurgent Operations

Patrols By Coalition And Iraqi Forces Cause Terrorists To Flee

Despite the increases in positive security the Iraqi forces have been making a slow steady progress toward having insurgent operations completely shut down across Iraqi. Recently there was a number of suspects that were discovered hiding in a insurgent safe house, along with a number of different types of mortar systems and explosives.

A local citizen came to the coalition and reported that he had seen suspicious activity and wanted to report the presence of explosives in a nearby house. The Coalition and the Iraqi security forces sent a joint patrol to investigate, and found a large supply of explosives, as well as six individuals believed to be terrorists.

The men were arrested and taken to a local coalition base for questioning, and the soldiers felt assured that this was an active cell. Members of the 82nd Airborne, 325th Airborne Infantry worked with members of the Iraqi Police force to locate and seize the explosives, and the insurgents were surprised and captured without a shot being fired.

This type of safe house remains one of the biggest threats to the overall and ongoing security of Iraq, but it is increasingly being discovered by the joint forces patrols.
