Joint Patrol Base Secures Area Well

Joint Patrol Base Secures Area WellPatrol Base Stone New To Hawr Rajab
Forward Operating Base Kalsu, Iraq

As the war on terror continues, U.S. and Coalition troops are finding themselves side by side with Iraqi Troops and citizens as the fight continues.

The latest in a series of forward control bases, Patrol Base Stone is being constructed in the Hawr Rajab area.  Several different squadrons and two different Regiments will share the base. The new site in Hawr Rajab was chosen because it is centrally located and it by its geography is easy to defend.

Two houses that are near the center of the city make up the basis for the new Patrol Base, and were located partly on the recommendations of the Concerned Local Citizens group.  Captain Greg Curry said, “the site will allow us to put a concerted and combined force of Iraqi Army, Coalition Forces, and Concerned Local Citizens right in town.”

Captain Curry is the leader and Commander of Troop A, 6-8 Cavalry Regiment.

“We are anticipating that we can interact better and respond faster and more effectively to threats,” said First Lieutenant Micah Hall.  Hall is the executive officer for Troop A.

Security overall in Iraq has improved but there is still significant threats that exist from Al-Qaida.  The addition of the new Patrol Base Stone will continue the momentum and decreased threats from insurgent and terrorist attacks.

“If I was a local resident of Hawr Rajab, I definitely would be feeling better now,” said Lieutenant Hall.  Another benefit of having the PB Stone is the increased interaction with local citizens and civilians.  By living with citizens side by side there will be increased transparency and intelligence, and this will help to prevent attacks before they can be put into action.
