Internet Commissary Shopping

Internet Commissary ShoppingOne of the benefits that you enjoy as a service member is the ability to do some of your commissary shopping on the Internet.  Online shopping has come of age, and so has access to commissary items from the comfort of your own computer at home.  If you are authorized to shop at the PX or Commissary, then you can also access the online version of the same.
Commissaries around the world are starting a new promotional and educational campaign that touts the benefits and advantages of online commissary access.

Much of the focus on the new program is to familiarize new Servicemembers and their families of what is available.  The new “Discover your Benefit” program is reaching new members and venturing far and wide into different segments of the military and defense community.  “We are new to this but learning and gaining understanding in how people want to use their commissary benefits, in person and online,” said Rick Page, the Department of Defense’s Acting DeCa director. “We are discovering customers want the latest information and convenience, and that is what the ‘Discover you Benefit’ is all about,” said Mr. Page.

DeCa has revamped and reformatted its approach to Internet commissary services.  New and more easily seen graphics, and areas that promote the wellness and health of Servicemembers are recent additions.  So is the “Ask the Dietitian” access area, where Servicemembers can bring their diet and nutrition questions and receive expert help and suggestions from a licensed DeCa Dietitian.  Major Karen Fauber, who is also a registered and licensed Diet specialist with the DeCa, hosts the Forum.  “I am thrilled to be able to touch base with customers and commissary users, and I hope we can promote open ended conversations about good health,” said Major Fauber.  “Being able to work with commissary customers and users is absolutely the best thing about my job,” said Major Fauber.

Visitors to the new online DeCa commissary web site will find substantial savings by finding things on sale and regular items too. New sections available by clicking on tabs from the main page include “Percent Off”, “Savings Aisle”, and “Shopping” tabs.  Customers and visitors to the site can print off a list of all the items on sale at their local commissary location, and know before they come in what is on sale.  Internet coupons are also sometimes available to be printed off and used at their local commissary in person.
