US Military Legal Support JAG Benefits

A “Judge Advocate” is member of the bar, and someone who has graduated from an accredited law school. They are licensed to practice before federal or state courts, and also in military court issues. It can be as simple as a power of attorney, using a contract, or signing a lease, but these common legal matters and others can be handled using the JAG services that are in the military. The JAG stands for Judge Advocate General, and it is the military title for the legal branch of the service that you serve in.

Even little things like purchasing a vehicle or choosing to rent an apartment are issues that JAG attorneys and legal assistants deal with. There are a host of support personnel that serve in JAG offices. JAG lawyers are officers, and they help with many different services, but some of the more routine matters such as drafting a will, contract issues, and other civil and legal issues are handled largely by the enlisted support staff. They handle the prosecution and defense for military Servicemembers in criminal matters, but they are also there to assist in civil and other issues that military Service people require. It literally affects military readiness and it’s a smart idea so the military is quick to give legal assistance to their Servicemembers. They can offer help on a variety of things, both legal and non-legal matters. Even if it’s an issue that needs to have a JAG lawyer get involved in, much of the support is provided by the support JAG enlisted staff. The good news is, these and other services are available for Service members free from their local JAG office. Judge Advocates are the title that military lawyers use. (JAGs). The services that members of the military need affect their morale, and also their ability to perform their duty. So, while it would make sense that military people need to be held accountable in criminal issues, it also makes sense that they are provided legal assistance in other issues.

Hi, My name is Jason Baker, I will be graduating with a BA in Political Science this fall from UC Davis in Davis CA.
I was curious about law careers in the U.S. Military. Are there programs envolved that help to pay for law school, in return for years in serving the Military as a trained lawyer.
    Any Information would be appreciated.
