US Army Engineers Assist In Beautification Projects
The assistance of the Coalition and the US Army Corps of engineers is being used to repair, rebuild and beautify different areas in Iraq. Basra Iraq is the third largest city in the nation and it has been celebrating the success and prosperity that has come with economic and political growth. Now that much of the fighting is over, making Iraq look good has suddenly began to be a popular political item.
The area in and around Basra is gaining a lot of attention. A citizen group effort called the Operation Charge of the Knights was credited for much of the effort and impetus in reopening the marketplace. The market was constructed with local Iraqi labor and the cost of the entire complex has been kept low, with most of the cost of construction paid for by private Iraqi Donations and the Iraqi Government reconstruction fund.
The market itself has already opened, and it is exciting because marketplaces tend to be focus points traditionally in Iraqi culture, and there are already other ideas for markets elsewhere in Basra.

The rebuilding and construction of the Marketplace has been paid for by Iraqi reconstruction funds along with supplies and support from the provincial council. around $1 million dollars.
