Joint Task Force Bravo Members Carry Supplies To Honduran Village
Capiro, Honduras
It was Christmas a few days early for members of a remote Honduran Village.
Nearly sixty different volunteers, both officers and enlisted, donated their time, money and effort to deliver food to villagers in Capiro Honduras. Members of Joint Task Force Bravo were the participants, with money for the food coming from various American Military sources, all donated.
It is a three-mile trek over mountain trails from the Soto Cano Air Force Base where Joint Task Force Bravo is based, to the village of Capiro. The volunteers each took about ten pounds of food, to total over six hundred pounds of food total that was transported to hungry villages.
Capiro is a small mountain village of about five hundred villagers. Much of the money used to purchase the food came from donations and tithes from the Soto Cano Base Chapel.
Air Force Captain Chad Bellamy said “This hike is unique for us because our military members were given time off from duty to participate.â€Â The Commander of JTF Bravo made that decision, and also participated himself in the hike, Army Colonel Marcus De Oliveira.
“These hikes are a wonderful experience for our people to get out from behind the walls and get among the people,†said Captain Bellamy. Captain Bellamy is the Soto Cano Air Base Chaplain, and the organizer of the food donation hikes.
“Having different social or economic conditions should not dictate whether or not we care for each other,†said Captain Bellamy. The trip to the village Capiro was the fourth of a series of five village hikes to villages around Soto Cano Air Base.
