MAS Air Station Yuma, Arizona- The senator representing Arizona stopped in at Marine Air Station Yuma last week to speak to local Marine Officials on border related issues, and different issues that affect Marine Corps training programs.
Following his meetings with the Marine Corps leaders, Senator McCain held a press conference and talked about the necessity for increased border control, to move approved goods and services more readily across the border, and to cut down on illegal immigration and smuggling operations of all types. He spoke of the need to reduce the high levels of violence and violent behavior in Mexico and on the US side of the border as well.
Senator McCain is held in high regard by most Military Servicemembers, both because of his past service to his country, and because of his honorable service while a POW held by the North Vietnam force during the Vietnam War. Rather than be released and sell out his honor and country by parroting political slogans he was instructed to say, he remained a prisoner of war for over 5 years.
Because of this he normally is greeted warmly by military leaders and rank and file enlisted Servicemembers alike. This time was no exception, and he was given the tour of the facility following the press conference, and after his tour, reception and press conference he returned to Washington D.C.
