Christmas Feast Warms U.S. Troops

Christmas Feast Warms U.S. TroopsSoldiers In Germany Celebrate With Festive Dinner
Stuttgart, Germany

Anyone who has served in the Military in any capacity knows how important the chow hall is to troop well-being and morale.  Where would you go if the chow hall were closed on Christmas?

For those still around Christmas Day, the Black Stallion Inn was open for service on Christmas Day last Tuesday, serving up a veritable feast at the Patch Barracks.  Nearly one hundred customers were served a variety of dishes, compared to the normal daily lunch crowd of four hundred.

Everyone that worked in the kitchen and the wait staff as well were pleased to be working.

“I sure didn’t want to have anyone hanging without anywhere to go or anything to eat,” said Ricky Johnson.  Ricky is one of the cooks at the Black Stallion. “We were a little light in numbers today, but I was still glad to be here able to cook,” said Johnson.

On the Christmas Day menu was Rainbow Trout, Shrimp, Roast Beef, and other delicious entrees.  The price for the full meal?  Six dollars and five cents.

“I am glad that they are open,” said Specialist Joseph Murray.  “If they were not I would be just sitting alone in my room,” said Murray.  The Base dining facility was the only place open due to the holiday, so for many at Patch Barracks, the Black Stallion Inn was the only game in town.

Vice Admiral Richard K. Gallagher showed up to help out, and worked behind the counter loading up plates.  Admiral Gallagher is Deputy Commander for the United States European Command.
