Iraqi Woman Receives New LegsCombat Support Hospital Gives Support and Prosthetic Limbs Forward Operating Base Hammer, Iraq For most people the act of standing upright and being able to walk on their own two feet is not a big deal.  But for Iraqi woman Soham Hassan Ka-Naan, being able to walk was something that she didn’t think she would ever do again. Soham, a young nineteen-year-old woman from Khargulia recently received a second artificial leg from the staff and surgeons of the 28th CHS hospital in Baghdad.  She received the second of two prosthetic limbs December 20th.  Soham is able to walk with crutches, with her new legs. Soldiers from Troop A, Third Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, Third Heavy Brigade Team, and 3rd Infantry division found Soham.  She had been the victim of a rocket attack by insurgents, and one of the rockets hit her house and severed both of her legs.  The attack happened in July. Soham is a brave woman, and just wouldn’t quit.  She has made the trip to Baghdad to the 28th Combat Support Hospital for repeated surgeries, physical therapy and fitting of her new legs. The entire journey was an ordeal, and had a lot of pain according to Soham.  Her final appointment and fitting has left her without any pain, and with two new legs.  One leg is from the right hip down, and the other is from the calf and foot down. A smiling Soham spoke through a translator. “I have no pain, I am very happy, I feel normal again,” said a beaming Soham.
