Commissary Changes For The New Year

Commissary Changes For The New YearServicemembers already familiar with the online version of their local commissary will find there are a lot of new surprises this January for the coming New Year.  For those that do not have any familiarity with the online shopping commissary choices, there is even more to explore.

Commissaries around the world are increasingly taking part in the online version of their stores. New products, new items, and access to what is currently on sale are just a few of the better-known elements of the online commissary.  Commissaries are kicking off a huge effort to make their products more available to the average Servicemember. Most of the focus is on brand new enlisted Servicemembers, but there is a little bit of something for everyone who visits their DoD supported commissary, either in person or on line.

Serving U.S. Forces around the globe, the Defense Department administers the Defense Agency Commissary.  The DeCa runs and operates a variety of commissaries, around the world.  They provide goods, services, groceries, and other items for Servicemembers around the world.  To utilize the web site, you have to be a Servicemember and register, this it to keep the site from being used incorrectly or by the general civilian public. Authorized users can buy items at near cost, or cost plus a five percent small charge.

“We are learning and understanding all the different ways that people want to use their commissary,” said Rick Page.  Page is the DeCa commissary-acting director.   “Our customers constantly strive that while they like the store, it s all about convenience for them,” said Mr. Page. To help show support and honor the holiday season, the commissary also features “Gift of Groceries” program, offered through the web site and at the local commissary also.  Shoppers can donate gift certificates, or purchase them for their own use or to give away. A variety of gift and food baskets can be purchased and shipped, without even having to set foot outside ones own house.

“Many of our commissary shoppers are new to their duty station, or move around a great deal, now all of our commissaries have their store hours available listed online which can be accesses from anywhere you have a computer,” said Page.  New products, new hours, and with each commissary having a link and being accessible from the Internet, it’s a brave new world for commissaries.  There are many news things to see and participate on at the new online DeCa Commissary web site.
