new-homeland-security-secretary-briefed-by-uscg-officersJust one day after assuming her new job as the secretary of the Homeland Security Department, Janet Napolitano was able to receive a briefing.

Members of the United States Coast Guard, all senior staff and Flag level Admirals, sat down with Ms. Napolitano. She was sworn in officially last Wednesday and immediately began to study and prepare herself for her new job.

As the new director of the Homeland Security department, she will now be over the third largest department in the Cabinet.

Rear Admiral Brian Salerno is the assistant Commandant for security, Marine Safety and other issues for the United States Coast Guard and he is one of the flag officers that is helping to brief Janet Napolitano for her new Federal job.

Napolitano was the governor of Arizona and is very aware of the issues dealing with border and security.

There are new procedures that are being implemented to make sure that  the United States will stay safe, and continue to have secure and safe borders. A combined task force, as well as other methods are being examined. With new technology, infrared cameras and other means of surveillance, it is now possible to have a much greater situational awareness than before.
