new-legislation-could-give-free-mail-for-deployed-troopsOne of the issues that has been in the wind for a long time is using the United States Mail to help support our troops. Currently the troops serving overseas and those wounded in the different hospitals around the world have to pay regular full price for the US Mail service.

According to a United States Congresswoman, that may change.

U.S. Representative Kathy Castor, Democrat from Florida has brought to the Congress legislation that would allow Servicemembers loved ones or friends to send letters without having to pay postage for those letters. She feels it is a way to support the patriotic efforts and hard work of the troops, and many around the United States agree with her.

The Bill is called “Home Front to Heroes Postal Benefits Act,” and it has nearly 150 co sponsors from other members of Congress. The Florida Congressional district is the home to the U.S. Central Command and also Special Operations Command located in Tampa Florida.

“Giving Support to our troops has always been one of the things that Congresswoman Castor has been enthusiastic about,” said the official representatives for Congresswoman Castor.

The bill would allow Servicemembers who are deployed or hospitalized to select a designated person to receive a mail pouch or mail voucher each month. The Voucher would allow that person or individual to send packages and mail to the Servicemember up to 15 pounds for free.
