orphanage-receives-us-assistance-from-troopsBaghdad, Iraq-More than 400 blankets, as well as food, toys and other supplies were handed out in a humanitarian operation recently in the Kamaliyah region of New Baghdad on January 3rd. It was a effort that was led by the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment of the United States Military, with elements of the Iraqi National Police and Iraqi Army assisting.

Blankets, food, water and toys were handed out at an orphanage in the Kamaliyah region, and they were well received by the children and families that lined up to receive the help.

The donation effort was coordinated by elements of the Iraqi Police Division and worked to bring supplies and assistance to the orphanage and the residents from the area that need it the most. It was to help widows and children battle the chilly winter that has settled on Iraq, and the temperatures can dip in the low 40s F, but with the blankets it will be much warmer.

These efforts are part of the overall drive to try and win hearts and minds, and while the Coalition and the U.S. Military are getting ready to depart, they are still completing missions up until the bitter end of their time in Iraq.
