Chinhae Naval Base, South Korea-The U.S. Military is examining what it will take to provide strong U.S. Air force and Navy support along the Korean Peninsula over the long term, according to the Commander, U.S. Force Korea, General Walter Sharp said.General Walter Sharp is the Commander for all U.S. Forces in South Korea, and he spoke to a group of his soldiers at the Chinhae Naval Base last week, talking about the future of South Korean U.S. Military activity, and the overall position of U.S. Forces in the region.
North Korea and South Korea have been on a Cease Fire since about 1953, and technically they are still at a state of war, despite a peaceful coexistence that has slowly taken place over the last 55 years.
The South Korean ground forces are slowly taking more and more responsibility, and the U.S. Forces are constantly looking for the most bang for their buck, and rotate to where they can do the most good and be the best support for the nation of South Korea.
By 2012 the ground forces of South Korea will be in a position to take the lead if there was to be war. Both countries, the United States and South Korea are examining how to maintain forces in the region in a spirit of cooperation and support.
