Washington, D.C.-There are many different celebrations that occur when a president is ushered into office, but one that takes center stage for many of the United States Military is the Commander in Chief’s Ball celebration.Hundreds of women and men in the United States Military lined up with their dates and waited for several hours for the star of the day, new President and Commander in Chief, Barack Obama.
The members of the United States military, including 300 members of the military from the Walter Reed Army Medical Center that had been wounded in action were excited to see their Commander in Chief for the first Time. When he arrived, and waved from the stage they erupted in applause and excitement.
President Obama made the rounds, and met many senior enlisted advisors of the Five Services, and then took the podium. During his remarks he pledged to work for the families and the members of the Military, and called for national Service and Unity during these difficult times.
“I will work to serve you well every single day that I am in the White House,” President Obama pledged to the assembled well wishers and ball attendees.
The event was one of nearly 10 official celebrations and balls held to welcome the new president. Two Sergeants cut in and took the first Couple for a dance of their own.
Marine Sergeant Elidio Guillen danced with the First Lady, Michelle Obama while Sergent Margaret Herrera danced with the President, and the crowd was pleased and cheered them on.
“We celebrate tonight but tomorrow we join and work together,” said the President.
