Citizenship One Benefit Of Joining Armed Services

Many people wind up getting a chance to earn citizenship faster than if they were in the civilian population. While this is still a honor and a privledge that is earned, it can result in members in the U.S. Military with having a chance to become citizens sooner.

For one German woman who has been living in the United States for ten years, she took another route. She decided to earn and win her citizenship so she could apply and be accepted as a U.S. Army Soldier.

In a a ceremony last Saturday at the Mall of America in Minnesota Heike Lewandowski was sworn in as an American Citizen. She is scheduled to go overseas with the Minnesota National Guard.

She is a 37 years old German woman who has been serving with the Minnesota National Guard for about the last 7 or 8 years. Her husband, Jeff Lewandwsk, is also serving with the National Guard but he does not face deployment at this time.

She decided that she wanted to go overseas but wanted to become a citizen of the United States First, so she did.
