active-duty-applications-due-from-inactive-ready-reserveEach year there are members of the Individual Ready Reserve are called back to service. Well recently it was decided to allow people on the IRR that are Lieutenant grade officers, as well as Majors, Captains and Lieutenant Colonels that wish to rejoin the Army Reserve or Army National Guard on active duty can apply for the 2009 Regular Army “Call to Active Duty,” program.

This is a program for those officers that are in the IRR that have been on a non drill status that wish to go back on active duty. Members of the Selected Reserves, Reserve Officers and National Guard officers already in the active reserves are not eligible to for this program.

Many officers that get out find that the pay, benefits and combat benefits, as well as hazard duty pay for serving in a war zone are hard to beat. With the current job situation in civilian life kind of bleak the program allows those IRR officers that wish to put back in for Active Duty to apply.

Considering participating in a ROTC Officers Training Program? Click HERE for more information about the United States Navy and Marine Corps ROTC College Service education and commissioning programs.

Applications for qualified IRR Officers are now being accepted, and there are some qualifying factors to be aware of. The officers must be qualified with a security clearance of secret or higher, have a 4 year degree, meet the height, weight and fitness Army Standards, be current United States citizens, and have at least 4 years of federal commissioned service already. They also have to be able to accumulate 20 years of active duty service before turning age 62.

Officers that are approved for the Reserve active duty program will then be committed to a three year term of service, on a new commission for three years.
